When I am out walking near my home, I recognize the birds who live here year-round, but I also look for those who are stopping over in the desert during their migrations. Making good use of the water available in this artifical oasis, their beautiful flight patterns crisscross the earth, sometimes meeting at this crossroads.
I might not see these more -than -human friends at first when I am out on my walks, but they see me. They might make their appearances in their own time if they sense safety. So I wait and take a photo if I can.

Throughout human history, myths have taught us that birds are messengers and divine guides. They are sacred symbols and believed to be psychopomps linking heaven and earth.
Birds always have a message for us. They remind us to stay present and appreciate beauty. As poet Susan Griffin reminds us, “We are nature seeing nature.”
