Hermes in Las Vegas

As James Hillman famously stated, “Gods are real. And these Gods are everywhere, in all aspects of existence, all aspects of human life. “1

As I began developing the Being/Dérive website, I went out for an early morning walk and was so surprised I laughed out loud. The Hermes archetype had arrived, appearing in the form of Coyote (the trickster) at the crossroads of my street.

Hermes is not a stranger to Las Vegas, NV.

As the god of the crossroads and transportation, he is equally present at an isolated I-15 gas station in desert as in the frantic energy of major freeway intersections in Las Vegas.

The god of the marketing and thieves, the cunning Hermes is in the sedate boutique for the ultra wealthy as well as in the plebian casino amidst the din of the slot machines.

Hermes, is also the guide to the underworld.

….down and through the door to Las Vegas backstage.
